 2016 Preview 


       Holy Spirit finished the 2015 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Holy Spirit finished sixth in Class 2A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Titans have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Holy Spirit averaged scoring just 13.5 points a game. The Titans also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.7 points a game.

       The Titans would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 1-19 record. Since 2010, the Holy Spirit football program has struggled with a record of 8-51.

       Over the past 12 seasons, Holy Spirit has managed to compile a record of 43-78. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 1A and 310th in the AHSAA. The Titans have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2008.

       The Titans are led by head coach Jamie Griffin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 1-19 over the past two seasons at Holy Spirit. The Titans have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Griffin.

       Coach Griffin's overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 7-23 (23.3%). Over the course of his career, Coach Griffin's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Holy Spirit Titans will play in Class 1A region five during the 2016 season. The Titans may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 2A to 1A. They will compete in region five this year.

       The Titans enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       This season, the Titans will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five.

       The Titans open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Fruitdale on Friday, August 19 at Indians Stadium. Last year the Fruitdale Pirates finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region one. The Pirates closed out the regular season with a loss to Red Level by a score of 38-26.

       Holy Spirit and Fruitdale have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Titans have a 2-0-0 record against the Pirates. They last met in with
